This workshop will discuss your role as the first responder with regard to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and confined space emergencies. AEDs are an effective tool for saving lives during sudden cardiac emergencies. In the past year, 250,000 Americans died of sudden cardiac arrest, nearly one death every two minutes. Up to 50,000 of these deaths could have been prevented if someone had initiated the Cardiac Chain of Survival.
Confine Space Emergencies: Your Role as the First Responder. As one of the first to the incident, you are responsible for implementing the initial stages of emergency response. Your actions will directly affect the outcome of the response, and you are required to have certain competencies so that you are able to: 1) Recognize the need for confine space rescue; 2) Initiate contact and establish communications with victim where possible; and 3) Recognize and identify the hazards associated with non-entry confined space.
